SonataScroll down to see large picture Curves and swirls interpreted by three different silks and five metals are placed on a diamond shaped canvas covered with custom painted blue or coral gauze. The soft undulation effect which is created by painted gauze over congress cloth contrasts with the sweeping lines of the design. It is not necessary to count gauze threads. The composition exhibits the importance of perspective and position in establishing a focal point and when to depart from tradition for a design or material priority. Other techniques studied while stitching this design are: Italian couching, use of metallic to add dimension and texture to an area, how limited colors can be used to develop a theme, flat silk over padding, trellis work, traditional and innovative application of bullions, and couching twisted cord with both metallic and silk. About 1-1/2 hours of pre-class basting and winding thread on koma, with detailed instructions, is necessary.
