Brilliant Blossoms

Scroll down to see large picture

Sandy has developed an exciting new concept in contemporary canvaswork of shading with metallics. More specifically, shading using metallics so that the item appears to have depth and dimension, and how to use these threads to give the impression that the item is real.

Stitchers will have a choice of pink, blue, or purple metallics, in three values, for the flowers, plus two greens, for their Brilliant Blossoms design. We’ll learn to use metallic threads to bring these two blossoms to life with a sparkle even more than that displayed in nature. Then we’ll stitch a leaf in directional shading, still with metallic threads, to compliment the flowers.

To enhance the design even more, a quiet background stitch will be done with silk thread. Kreinik #4 Braid is used in this design; however, there will be a discussion of how to apply the techniques of metallic shading learned to other metallic threads. The class model is inserted into a Lee’s leather box, and stitchers will have the opportunity to purchase their own Lee’s box at a special price. Or at the stitchers’ discretion, the 3" design may be made into an ornament, as the top of a wood box, tiny wall hanging, insert, or however they wish. The instruction booklet contains "work-in-progress" photos that make completing the project easy. Basic color theory as it applies to depth perception and shading will also be discussed.
